IT IS all change on the cross-country rail line from Berwick with CrossCountry, part of the Arriva group, having taken over the service from Virgin Trains earlier this month.

Trains on the East Coast Main Line will also be in the hands of a new operator next month.

National Express have taken over the franchise from GNER, beating off competition from Arriva amongst others.

Both CrossCountry and National Express have promised to improve services on both routes, including more trains, changes to ticketing and booking and more facilities on trains.
