HUNDREDS of photographs were submitted in a bid to put Berwick in the picture for a special 2009 calendar.
Tweeddale Press, working in partnership with Cittaslow Berwick - an organisation dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for both residents and visitors to the town - launched an open photography competition earlier this year.
It resulted in more
than 300 images being submitted.
People were asked to submit iconic images to convey the heritage of the town. Including the cover, 13 images were selected to create a calendar which is now on sale to the public from a range of outlets including the Advertiser office and Cittaslow itself.
Bernard Shaw, representing Cittaslow, said: "The calendar is designed to promote Berwick and its heritage and is a small, but typical example, of what can be achieved when we all work together for the benefit of the town that we are fortunate enough to live and work in.
"Thanks are due to the staff of the Advertiser whose expertise and experience provided the essential knowledge and support; to Derek Sharman who provided heritage information and Mike McFarlane, who provided photographic advice.
"In the main, however, appreciation must go to those colleagues within the community who had the interest and confidence to take part in the project knowing full well that ultimately only a dozen or so photographs would be selected."
Although producing the calendar was the principal objective of the photographic competition, a selection of the images have also been used to create a touring display entitled Images of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which has its first airing on Friday, September 12 at the Autumn Arts Weekend in The Maltings.
These stunning photographs will tour the libraries in the area whilst the Berwick Community Trust is to put a selection of images on permanent display in the William Elder Building, Castlegate.
The calenders are on sale now, available from the Advertiser officer, in Marygate, Berwick, or online at www.berwick-advertiser.co.uk.
