BERWICK author Cara Lockhart Smith visited St Mary's First School on Monday to hold story-telling and illustration workshops with the children.

She read her well known book, 'The Berwick Bear and His Fiddle' to nursery, reception and year 1 pupils and then did some illustration workshops with class 3 and 4.

Teacher Sally-Anne Herriott said: "We are doing a project on Berwick so we invited Cara along to read stories and do some illustration work with the children.

"She even got them to produce a book cover.

"The children loved it," she added.

"They thought it was really good and it tied in well with our project work to find out more about Berwick, which has included research from the archives."
