ROBERT Burns, passionate about Scotland and its people, would have been proud and honoured that his work is still revered 251 years after his birth.
Proposing the Immortal Memory at Berwick St Andrew's Club supper in Berlino's on Monday, Rob Cockburn recited excerpts from some of the bard's greatest poems.
Mr Cockburn, chairman of the Whiteadder club, set the tone for an evening which delighted more than 70 members and guests who were welcomed by president Andrew Martin.
The Selkirk Grace was said by Andrew Dewar and the haggis, piped in by Pipe Major Andrew Ainslie, was addressed by Ian Buick.
An entertaining toast to the lasses was proposed by vice president Michael Ross and a sparkling reply came from Jean Rae, a former Sheriff's Lady.
The toast to the president was also proposed by Mr Ross and a vote of thanks was given by Mr Martin.
High quality entertainment added to the enjoyment. Recitations were given by Ian Buick (Tam O'Shanter), Peter Craig (Holy Willie's Prayer), Wendy Lough (To a Louse) and young David Cockburn - Rob's grandson, who impressed on his debut with Willie's Wastle.
Songs were sung by Tamsin Davidson, Grace Bennett, Alan Rowland and the accompanist was Michael Baglee.
