OVER 70 locations countywide, covering around 100 miles of carriageway, are to be targeted in Northumberland County Council's annual surface dressing programme.

The work will be carried out between May and August as part of the authority's £19 million investment into roads and transport for 2008/2009.

Surface dressing is a highway maintenance operation undertaken to improve the road surface and extend the life of the carriageway. All the works are to be undertaken by two teams over an anticipated 13 week period. During the site operations there may be minor delays experienced by road users, however these will be kept to a minimum.
Road users are reminded to take extra care and follow the advisory speed limit signs on the recently surface dressed roads until essential road sweeping has taken place.

Advance signing warning of the surface dressing works will be in place at the various locations at least the week prior to any work taking place.

For additional information on the exact location of each site and the proposed surface dressing programme please contact the helpdesk on (0808) 1008910 or email contactcentre@northumberland.gov.uk.
