Tasha to play Glasgow venue which has previously hosted Amy Winehouse and Calvin Harris
Ayton singer/songwriter Tasha Blackmore is heading to Glasgow to support acclaimed country duo Raintown at a venue that has previously hosted the likes of Calvin Harris and the late great Amy Winehouse.
Tasha’s spot on the bill for the show at Oran Mor on Saturday, February 23 came about thanks to her friend Coleen Henderson-Heywood of Duns-based 80eight Creative. Coleen put Tasha in touch with Raintown’s Claire McArthur and Paul Bain after meeting them herself at last year’s Scottish New Music Awards.
After Tasha made a fine first impression, Raintown said they would be happy to help promote her music any way they could. Tasha then suggested sharing the stage with them.
As a fan of Raintown, she was always going to jump at the chance to perform with them in Glasgow, where she will be joined by fellow support act Leeanne Douglas.
It’s been quite a 12 months for the singer/songwriter, who has released a single and had her songs played on radio. She also took part in Berwick Frontier Festival in autumn.
Tasha is excited to be taking her music further afield.
“I was quite taken aback by just how supportive Raintown were,” she admitted.
“After meeting other musicians, I kind of felt that they’ve been through a lot of hard times to get recognised and get their music out there.
“I thought they would think other up-and-coming artists should have to go through the same thing, but there was none of that from them.
“I am quite nervous about playing in such a big venue, where Amy Winehouse has played before, but I’m also really excited. I couldn’t believe it when I saw a list of some of the other people who have performed there, including Boyce Avenue, who I’m a big fan of.”
Tasha released her single ‘Permanent Memory’ at the end of December and started 2013 writing more songs, the process aided by an unexpected shoulder injury.
“In a way injuring my shoulder paid off as it meant I was housebound,” Tasha joked.
“Although I didn’t write any songs about the injury itself I wrote a few about feeling extremely fed up.
“It also meant I had more time to listen to other music. I’ve got into Rascal Flatts in a big way but I also like older stuff like Fleetwood Mac. You can learn a lot from some of the greats. I get my influences from all the types of music even R&B like Kanye West.”
