THE north Northumberland countryside is coming to life in a fresh new fashion with the help of a new series of posters inspired by vintage railway adverts.

Local artist Sally Latimer this week launched The Northern Section, a project that celebrates the best of the area’s picturesque landscape and beautiful heritage.

Her railway-inspired posters show a variety of scenes, including Lindisfarne Castle and the Cheviot Hills.

Sally said: “Northumberland has a wealth of beautiful and inspiring locations and a very special and distinctive atmosphere, with its huge skies and dramatic vistas. I strove to produce something that would celebrate how fortunate we are to live in the area, and to try and capture that beauty for both Northumbrians and visitors alike.”

All the designs are either handpainted or crafted in lino print by the artist herself. Sally, originally from the region, returned to live in north Northumberland after working as a museum conservator at the Egyptian Museum in Turin and time spent studying ceramic conservation at the Victoria and Albert Museum. She also previously worked as a picture researcher on national newspapers.

Her work also comes in the form of china mugs and eco-friendly canvas bags

Anyone subscribing to updates at the Northern Section website (thenorthermnsection.com) will be able to vote for their favourite location to be captured in a poster, and have a chance to win a free framed poster of their choice. The draw for this competition takes place on December 15.
