Lowick in Bloom are offering people the unusual opportunity of sponsoring a flower tub for friends or family this Christmas.

LOWICK in Bloom is offering a unique Christmas present that will support the local community and brighten the environment.

Gift-givers are being invited to sponsor a flower tub in the village on behalf of their friends or family. Each recipient will receive a certificate of sponsorship, a Christmas card describing their gift and their name displayed in the sponsored tub.

Karen Burn, who has recently joined Lowick in Bloom, explained: “The idea is a little like giving sponsorship of a goat in Africa – offering people the chance to give a present which will give pleasure to others and support a community endeavour, but you can also come and see your gift!”

The group, proud winner of two Golds in the Northumbria in Bloom Awards, will plant up 22 flower tubs twice in the coming year. “This is a huge number of planters and quite a challenge for a small group of people,” Karen said.

Over the years the volunteers have worked extremely hard, nurturing plants in the polytunnel, creating beautiful displays around the village, watering everything two or three times a week, and holding community events and fund raisers.

“I have been amazed by all the hard work that this small team of people have put in to making our village look beautiful over the past few years,” Karen added. “The team has changed the face of Lowick Village - thanks to the hard work of the volunteers it has become a village to be proud of with a great community spirit.”

Lowick in Bloom is always in need of volunteers and would welcome extra hands, but if you don’t have time, why not give the gift of a flower tub this Christmas? Sponsorship is £10 for either a Spring flowering tub which will be on display from February to May in the village, or a Summer tub from June to September.
