THE Maltings Youth Theatre are getting their act together and taking it on the road as they head over the border to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
This year they're warming up their vocal chords as they get to grips with the Stephen Sondheim gothic masterpiece, Sweeney Todd.
Unfortunately, they have not managed to secure the services of Johnny Depp, but rest assured the title role is in the ve
ry safe, and very scary, hands of Peter Lannon.
The Maltings Youth Theatre consists of more than 50 enthusiastic and talented youngsters between the ages of 14 and 24, from all parts of the region and both sides of the border.
To go to Edinburgh and be part of the multicultural festival is a very exciting, challenging and life enhancing experience, however, funding as always is an issue!.
Director Wendy Payn said: "We were overwhelmed and very appreciative of the help we received from the members of the local community last year and, taking the credit crunch into consideration, we would be very grateful of any offers of help this year too."
Performing as they did last year at Greenside, from Monday August 11 to Saturday August 16 at 6.15pm, tickets are on sale now, available from the festival box office or from Greenside itself.
Further details are also available from the Maltings on (01289) 330 999.
Last year's show was a sell-out so book early to avoid disappointment.
