A MAGAZINE editor has put in some thirsty work to come up with his 50 favourite Northumbrian pubs which now feature in a new pocket-sized guide.
Stewart Bonney, editor of the Northumbrian magazine, has been travelling the length and breadth of the county for more than 20 years and knows its watering holes well.
There is a photograph of each coastal pub and country inn, a brief description of its location, history and amenities, followed by information about opening hours, directions, beers and food.
There are gourmet pubs with award-winning chefs and others that spoil their customers with home-made pickled eggs, old fashioned puddings and home-made cakes.
Many offer a range of locally brewed real ales and almost all are family run.
If you want to know where to find the oldest pub in the county, and the smallest, or beer gardens with the best views, cosy winter pubs and refreshment stops on long-distance walks, this will prove to be a handy little reference book.
50 Favourite Northumbrian Pubs is out now, priced £5.95 and is published by Powdene Publicity, Newcastle.
