A MUCH-loved children's book is being brought to life on The Maltings stage next week.
'The Tiger Who Came To Tea,' by Judith Kerr, is a staple read for many youngsters and David Wood has given it a new lease of life for the theatre.
Since it was first published in 1968, it has sold more than four million copies worldwide and is translated in over 20 different languages.
The show tells the story of Sophie and her mum, who are sitting down to tea like any normal family when there's a knock at the door. When they open it they get a big surprise!
The show is described as the ideal introduction to theatre for pre and primary school children and their families.
Featuring magic and sing-a-long songs, it's great for developing literacy and listening skills, and audience participation is highly encouraged.
Abbey Norman, who plays Sophie said it was a privilege to bring the book to life on stage, but also a huge responsibility.
"You always hope to be as close to how children have imagined the characters. A highlight for me are the sets and costumes, which are absolutely wonderful."
The team at The Maltings is also working hard to create a memorable experience for the lucky children who are attending.
An hour prior to each performance, tiger face painting will be available and balloons will be given away at the end of each show.
Each group ticket purchased in advance comes with a complimentary Maltings Tiger Activity Fun Pack put together for the event that includes mask making, a tiger fact sheet and best of all a 50 per cent discount voucher for tiger face painting!
'The Tiger Who Came to Tea' is on stage at The Maltings on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 7 and 8 at 2pm and 5.30pm. Running time is approximately 55 minutes (no interval).
Tickets are £8, £6 schools (under-16s), £25 Family (two adults, two children) and a special group booking is offered – for every 10 tickets purchased receive one free.
