Piano marathon raises RNLI funds

BELFORD pianist Shiela McQuattie raised £500 for the RNLI with a six-hour long marathon performance at the Bluebell Hotel.

The performance, four times the length of an average piano recital, was completely improvised. Classically trained pianist Shiela, was kept company by hotel residents and locals throughout the evening. They were treated to a range of music that will never be heard again from upbeat melodies to more melancholy harmonies.

Apart from suffering from stiff shoulders, Shiela was delighted with the outcome: “On the night the total in the collection buckets came to just over £370 but since then donations have kept coming, some more through my letterbox by kind people who couldn’t be there on the night and some from friends where I used to live to make the total up to £500. I’d like to thank everyone for their support.”
